Before pickup day: download the free Aventon app, watch a 10-minute walkthrough of the controls, figure out where you'll charge the battery, and have a lock plan ready. Do those four things and you'll ride away from the shop knowing your bike instead of figuring it out at a red light.
1. Download the Aventon app
The free Aventon: MyRide app works on iPhone and Android. Download it and create your account before you come in. At pickup we'll pair it to your bike together by scanning the QR code on the Abound's display.
Once it's paired, the app lets you:
Turn the integrated lights on and off
Adjust the display brightness and set an auto power-off timer
Switch between mph and km/h
Track your rides: distance, time and calories, by day, month and year
Give your bike a nickname (it deserves one)
Get it from the App Store or search "Aventon" on Google Play. Aventon's setup guide walks through creating your account.
2. Watch the controls walkthrough
This video walks through every button on the Abound: power, pedal-assist levels, lights and the display screens. It covers both the LR and the SR.
Every button on the Abound SR and LR, explained. Video by Chris Enockson.
Pay attention to the pedal-assist levels. You'll want a low level for your first few blocks with kids on board, then work your way up as you get comfortable.
3. Plan where you'll charge
Figure out where the battery will live before you bring the bike home. Most NYC families charge indoors: the Abound's battery locks into the frame with a key and comes out so you can carry it up to your apartment, even if the bike stays on the street, in the basement or in a bike room.
Charge it fully before your first big ride. We'll make sure it goes home topped up.
Use only the charger that came with the bike.
Charge somewhere you'll be around, on a hard surface, away from anything flammable. Don't leave it plugged in for days.
For daily riding, keeping it between 20% and 80% helps the battery last longer.
Plan on spending a little time with us when you pick up your Abound:
Fit: we'll set your seat and handlebar height so the bike fits you, not the last rider.
App pairing: bring your phone with the Aventon app installed and we'll pair it together.
A quick ride lesson: a few laps to get the feel of starting, stopping and the assist levels, solo first and then with kids or cargo if you like.
Details on your first safety check: every new bike gets one within 3 months. After a few hundred miles cables stretch and bolts settle, so come back and we'll dial everything back in at no charge. See our service packages.
