Riding: Tern Quick Haul & Tern GSD
@rachelbobbypinsRachel rides a Tern Quick Haul and a Tern GSD through Park Slope with her two kids. The bikes cover everything in the one-to-three-mile range that's too far to walk and slow by subway, and on weekends they haul kids, scooters, and bikes to the Governors Island ferry.
Governor's Island! I can use my cargo bike to get us all to the ferry, and load it up with the kids' scooters and bikes as well. Once we're on the island, they have freedom to move around at their own pace, and we're all relaxed when we're not worrying about cars — or talking over them.
It's made everything in the 1–3 mile range from our apartment more accessible. A lot of those trips are too far to walk with 2 kids, and not necessarily fast by public transportation. The cargo bike makes those trips much easier. When I was pregnant with my second kid, I relied on the cargo bike for basically all of my transportation — I couldn't walk more than 10 minutes without extreme pain, but cycling was fine.
Replace the paint infrastructure — the beige daylighted corners, for example — with concrete. Concrete would provide physical protection, and be much clearer to both drivers and cyclists.
Come take one for a spin at the shop in Park Slope.
